Making the rounds on the net are launch videos and initial reviews of the Surface Book 2. Improved processing performance, a 13.5″ and 15″ option plus available GTX1060 graphics and i7 8th Generation processors … this is sure to be on the hot list this Christmas. Based on my experience with the original Surface Book, might be time to gift it to the wife and upgrade ;).
Dona Sarkar tweeted that builds 16251 and 15235 have been released for Windows Insiders on the fast ring in the preview program. Some items of interest include:
Build 16251 for PC
Link Your Phone and PC – (According to the blog notes this feature will enable cross device web-browsing and will be currently available for Android with iPhone coming shortly)
Web Search Results in Cortana without opening web browser
Cortana Voice Commands to lock, sign-out, shutdown, or turn off your PC (Finally!)
Improved Boot Up Experience
A list of input improvements dealing with the touch keyboard, scrolling, pen, etc.
Additional Edge and Gaming improvements as well
Build 15235 for Mobile
Continuum improvements for displaying in portrait mode
A small list of bug fixes
I am currently downloading the desktop build on a Lenovo Edge 1580 and an Asus Desktop. Looking forward to trying out the Cortana feature but the phone link feature targeted towards Android and iPhone and the current state of the Windows mobile build is another clear message from Microsoft that the phone ecosystem is either dead already or dying.
I have been getting used to having to apply workarounds to get the Insider Preview Builds installed. On one of my systems, after months of frustration, I finally figured out I had to remove the WLAN PCI card, upgrade then re-install it. That has been consistent for some time now.
Build 16215 was released and my SurfaceBook upgraded without issue (though there have been some “possible” bugs I’ve noticed) but 2 of my other systems – an ASUS Desktop and Lenovo Edge 2/1580 running Build 16199 have both refused to upgrade. The ASUS would throw an inaccessible_boot_device error on a green screen and the Lenovo would just fail during the upgrade and rollback.
This morning I started browsing online looking for solutions or if others experienced the same issue and found this.
Surprisingly enough, during the first Bug Bash for the Fall Creators Update – Dona Sarkar announed Build 16199 for PC and 15215 for Mobile has been released for Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring.
“Today we are excited to be releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16199 for PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. We are also releasing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 15215 to Insiders in the Fast ring. Our first Bug Bash for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update continues – running right now through to 11:59pm on Sunday May 21st. Today’s new builds for PC and Mobile can also be used for the Bug Bash. Be sure to send us all the feedback you can and do all the Quests!…”
