Windows Insider Build 15025 Creators Update Released to Desktop and Mobile

In the past 24 hours Microsoft has released Build 15025 – known as the Creators Update to Insiders in the Fast Ring for both desktop and mobile. Installation on 2 different systems went smoothly and performance and stability up to this point are better than expected. Currently am installing on mobile so do not have any experience with the mobile version yet.

Desktop features include Braille support in Narrator, mono audio option in Ease of Access settings, Collections in Feedback Hub, enhanced Night Light features. A long list of improvements can be found at https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/02/01/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-15025-pc/#ZA2ACCbsbBxJ0hmM.97.

Windows Insider Build 15014 Released to the Fast Ring

2017 continues strong for users in the Windows Insider preview program.  The day before inauguration Microsoft released Build 15014 to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring for PC and Mobile.

Some notable features include a slider option for Power Management available on the taskbar under the battery icon as well as improvements to Cortana, E-Book support and user interface features added.

Overall the upgrade went smoothly however there seems to be a few minor issues with Cortana so far on 2 systems I use.  Have experienced some momentary freezing accessing Cortana.  Cannot say I am a huge fan of the lighter shade of the Cortana search bar at this point either.

Let me know what you think.

Windows Insider Preview Build 14361 Released to the Fast Ring for PC and Mobile

Newly appointed head of the Windows Insiders program, Dona Sarkar, promised to “hustle” up the team upon taking the reigns from Gabe Aul.

Sure enough, after pushing a new mobile build last week, today she announced availability of Build 14361 for both PC and mobile in the Fast Ring.

The Windows Anniversary Update is right around the corner so this build features a number of fixes with a modest amount of new features (LastPass extension for Edge and some Windows Ink improvements among others.)

I spent the past hour downloading and installing on one of the desktops I have enrolled – so we’ll wait and see.  The install process was a bit lengthy clocking in @ over an hour from download to first start.  A little slower than I’d like but having another Build ready more than makes up for it.  For a complete list of new features and fixes/issues with this build – click here.

Lumia 950XL Review–Almost Great

First Impressions: Great display, impressive camera, responsive.

During the recent promotion where Microsoft offered a free Lumia 950 with the purchase of a 950xl I had debated buying the Lumia until the last day of the promo and found myself driving an hour away to the nearest Microsoft Store in Delaware to see the 950xl up close to help me determine if I should make the plunge and upgrade.

I spent about 10 minutes in store comparing the 950xl to my existing 640 and it was an easy enough choice that the cost of the upgrade with the free 950 was worth taking a chance on.  I considered the rumored Surface phone is still close to a year away and I hadn’t had anything close to a premium phone since the Nokia 920 years ago so made the purchase.
